 OPEN   GARDENS:   Please Note:

     a.   Visits to these gardens is done by telephonic arrangement with the owners.

           No-one may arrive at the garden without prior consent.

      b.   These gardens are FREE throughout the year, EXCEPTING from 24 September –           

 31 October….and  also where specified.

      c.   During early Spring, from 24 Sept – 31 Oct…..the following can be arranged:

·        Guided Garden ToursR35 per person – phone Lynn at 045-962-1192  or Visitors’ Info Centre  (045-962-1245) to buy ticket.

·        Self-Guided Garden Visits R20 per adult – Tickets at VIC – 045-962-1245

      d.   The gardeners employed at the various gardens will benefit from a proportion of  the  sale

WALKS:

17.   Arboretum  (Oak Ave)   ( 20mins – flat)  Known as the “Heart of Hogsback”, originally planted 130 years ago…..follow the maps and  quaint pathways and find the 39 Steps Waterfall, giant Redwoods, and  colourful shrubs.

18.   The Edge Cliff Walk (20 mins – Left through the gate) , and Bluff Grassland Walk 24 ha ( 40 mins- Right through the gate)  (Summerton Drive) Exhilarating views and Indigenous fynbos (Protea, Watsonias  and ground Orchids) and watch the Crowned eagles from above!   Also visit the Labyrinth and Tea Thyme Restaurant and Shop.

19.   Tor Doone Grassland 139ha  Reserve….and Wetlands  (90 mins – fairly steep, then flat)   Stunning views, find Fort Michel (dug-out fort c1850) waterfall, and interesting flora.   Park at end of Tor Doone Lane and climb over stile…follow pathway.

20.   Eureka Grassland 73ha ( 90 mins)   Turn Left at T-Junction and park at first gateway on Left.- follow along edge of forest, uphill.   Stunning views over Michell’s Pass.   Find old wagon route, soldiers’ graves, flora.

21.   Amatola Lookout  (Micro-wave Tower).   Take Plaatjieskraal Road for about 6kms.  Pass the HB Dam (water supply) and find   the microwave tower, and  enjoy walking around the top, seeing Mitchell’s Pass, Seymour and Katberg.    Wonderful at Sunset!
